Pressure reducing valves are a valuable asset to any piping system. Many people are under the misapprehension that more pressure is better when, in fact, it is often the reverse.
Too much pressure in a system puts unnecessary strain on water heaters, plumbing joints, taps, washers, etc, increasing the chance of leaks, burst hoses on washing machines and other appliances and adding greatly to water hammer problems.
The Caleffi 5335 series pressure reducing valve is fully adjustable between 100 – 600kPa and allows for easy adjustment to an optimum pressure. A pressure gauge can be fitted into the gauge port for accurate setting. The valve comes factory set at 500kPa, the most common pressure setting required for domestic systems. The Caleffi 5335/H is available in both standard and high temperature versions. Alternatively, the Caleffi 535 series “dial-up” pressure reducing valve range is available from 15mm to 50mm.
The 536 series pressure reducing valve is a high performance valve made specifically for applications where high inlet pressures are present and where extraneous noise and maintenance activities are to be avoided. The internal layout, designed to obtain the optimum fluid dynamic characteristics, has made it possible to achieve a low noise level in all the tests carried out and thanks to this quality, Caleffi reducing valves are approved to the acoustic group I, in compliance with the EN 1567 European standard. The zone exposed to the upstream pressure is constructed in such a way that it can operate at high pressure.
Thanks to the PTFE anti-extrusion rings on the compensating piston, the valve can be used in continuous service with upstream pressures of up to 2,500kPa. For ease of inspection and maintenance, a removable internal cartridge and strainer, containing all the regulating components, can be accessed through the top of the valve
The 5219 series tempering valve is typically used in underfloor hydronic heating systems. Its function is to maintain the temperature of the mixed
water supplied to the user constant at the set value when there are variations in the conditions of the hot and cold water at the inlet.
This valve is not approved as a tempering valve or thermostatic mixing valve and should only be used in non-potable applications such as
underfloor heating. They are not supplied with inlet check valves.
The tempering valve is used to regulate the set temperature of mixed hot and cold water even when variations occur in the water
supply conditions. In the event of a failure of the hot or cold supply, the piston will shut off, stopping water discharging from the
mixed water outlet.
Caleffi tempering valves are compact in design with superior performance.
The 5213 series grey cap tempering valve is suitable for storage hot water
units. The Caleffi 2522HP series yellow cap tempering valve has been
specifically designed for installation in solar hot water systems, as well as
being suitable for use on instantaneous systems where supply conditions
may fluctuate.
The 5213 series is now available in 25mm and features exceptional flow
rates, as well as being able to temper the water down to 20ºC which is
particularly suited to emergency shower applications.
The Caleffi 2522TMF series is a high performance thermostatic mixing valve
and has been specifically designed and manufactured to meet and exceed the
requirements of: “AS 4032.1”. This model supercedes both the 2522TMX and
5213TMX series valves.
In certain sections of our society, there is a need to protect the most vulnerable
from the danger of scalding caused by hot water. Hence, the need for thermostatic
mixing valves. The Caleffi 2522TMF series provides water at a safe and usable
temperature in situations where the control of the temperature of the water
discharging from an outlet is of the utmost importance, i.e. within hospitals,
schools, nursing homes, etc.
This valve series can be used with high temperature water in solar applications.
The valve is designed to prevent the flow of water discharging from the mixed
water outlet in the event of the failure of hot or cold supply. The valve is supplied
complete with strainer and check valve at both hot and cold inlets.
The 2521 series tempering valve is typically used in solar heating systems to step down and control the high incoming temperature to a
pre-set temperature, able to be used on the secondary circuits. Its function is to maintain the temperature of the mixed water supplied to the
user constant at the set value when there are variations in the conditions of the hot and cold water at the inlet.
This valve is not approved as a tempering valve or thermostatic mixing valve and should only be used in non-potable applications such as closed
loop solar heating systems
The thermostatic mixer is used in systems for the production of hot water.
Its function is to maintain the temperature of the mixed water supplied to
the points of use constant at the set value when there are variations in the
temperature and supply pressure of the incoming hot and cold water or in the
draw-off flow rate.
This particular series of mixers has been designed especially for systems
which demand high flow rates, such as, for example, closed loop centralised
systems, process applications, industrial heating, wash down areas etc.
These systems aso require high accuracy and stability of temperature
regulation, especially in relation to variations in the flow rate drawn off by the
users
The following series of manual and lockshield
valves are typically used for controlling and
regulating the fluid flow in heat emitters of central
heating systems.
They are supplied with a special tailpiece with
rubber hydraulic seal, permitting quick, safe
connection to the radiator without the use of
additional sealing materials.
The following series of convertible radiator valves
are typically used for controlling the fluid in the
emitters of heating systems.
These special valves can be converted from
manual to thermostatic operation by simple
replacement of the adjusting knob with a
thermostatic control head. This means that the
ambient temperature of any room in which they
are installed can be constantly maintained at the
set value.
The Frost Protection Valve is designed to protect
solar collector panels by preventing the water from
freezing when the air temperature drops.
When the air temperature falls below 3ºC, the
thermostatic element opens the valve, thereby
allowing warm water from the solar storage tank to
flow through the panels and reducing the chance
of the water freezing in the solar collectors.
Once the air temperature reaches 4ºC, the Frost
Protection Valve will close again and the water will
stop flowing.
The automatic filling unit is a device consisting of a pressure reducing valve with
compensating seat, an inlet filter, a shut-off valve and a check valve. It is installed on
the water inlet piping in sealed heating systems, and its main function is to maintain
the pressure of the system stable at a set value, automatically topping up with water as
required.
This product has the characteristic of being pre-adjustable, which means that it can be
adjusted at the required pressure value before the system charging phase.
After installation, during the filling or topping-up phase, the water feed will stop when the
set pressure is reached.
A pre-assembled version is also available, complete with upstream backflow preventer
and shut-off valve.
The thermostatic mixing valve is used in systems for the production
of domestic hot water.
It is designed to maintain the set temperature of the mixed water
supplied to the user when there are variations in the temperature
and pressure conditions of the incoming hot and cold water or in
the flow rate.
This particular series of mixing valves can function continuously at
the high temperatures of the incoming hot water from the solar
storage tank.
These safety relief valves are used to control
pressure in the primary circuits of solar heating
systems.
When the calibrated pressure is reached, the valve
opens to release the fluid into the atmosphere and
prevents the pressure in the system from reaching
levels that might damage the solar collectors and
equipment installed.
These particular series of products have been
specially made and certified to work at high
temperature with a glycol medium.
The flow switch detects whether there is any flow in the piping and opens or closes an electrical contact. It is normally used in heating, airconditioning, refrigeration, water treatment, additive pumping and process systems in general. By means of the flow switch it is possible: to
control devices such as pumps, burners, compressors, refrigerators, motorized valves; to turn on indicator and alarm devices and regulate
equipments for dosing water additives.
In heating systems, especially, the flow switch has the objective of switching the burner off in case of a lack of medium circulation within the water
heater circuit. A lack of circulation would otherwise impair the operation of the temperature-sensitive safety and protection devices.
Safety valves are generally used to control pressure in heat generators
and storage water heaters.
When the response pressure is reached, the valve opens and, by
releasing the pressure into the atmosphere, prevents the system
pressure for the heat generator and the installed components from
rising to dangerous levels
The differential by-pass valve is used in systems working with variable flow rates, for example in those making widespread use of thermostatic
valves or 2-way motorised valves. It ensures a flow recirculation proportional to the number of valves being closed, while limiting the maximum
differential pressure value generated by the pump. In chilled water systems with high head pumps, installation of the version with a setting range
between 100 and 400 kPa is advisable.
